Tomorrow I will be attending The Makeup Show in LA. It is full 2 day event offered only to Professionals in the makeup industry. It showcases the best of the best artists along with the best of the best makeup products. There is a great opportunity to learn a lot of information with all day seminars broken out in 45 min. increments to cover everything from Bridal makeup to HD airbrushing editorial makeup. There are even hands-on courses where you can work in a small classroom lead by extremely talented makeup artists. I'm so excited to be going to this and I can't wait to report back with all I have learned and all of the talented people I have met.

Bamboo Bakery Runway Event

Tomorrow I will be joining my other fellow makeup artists of Artistry On Location at an event to promote local vendors active in the wedding community. We will be doing the makeup for 10 women and 2 men for the runway event that will take place at Bamboo Bakery, if you get a chance to check out some of their cakes, they look so delicious and pretty! I was fortunate enough to gain another 2 weddings based on referrals. Thank you for all of my friends and past clients who have been spreading my name to other potential brides. Wedding season is like xmas for makeup artists and my days are getting so full!

Ashley Manor Wedding

Pretty Haute Starts Now!

Okay...so now that I've given you some back story, my full makeup journey starts today. Tomorrow I will be going to Ashley Manor to do makeup for a beautiful bride who looks just like Gabrielle Union, seriously look at this resemblance. After she weds she will join her husband in Australia (side note: so jealous I <3 Aussies). I am so excited to see who look come together. I will try to get some decent photos with my point-and-shoot camera...I really need to invest in a professional camera, any suggestions?

Photoshoot For Haiti

Because of the devastating tragedy that has hit Haiti, a group of highly talented photographer, makeup artists and hair stylists got together to raise money for the cause. We all teamed up for an afternoon offering mini makeovers for headshots, family portraits, etc. for people donating money towards Haiti. These pictures demonstrate the wonderful photos that were offered and also a glimpse of my makeup. Remember it's never too late to volunteer your time for a cause that you believe in. Enjoy!

The Month of Consultations

Because with each wedding a consultation is required...January seemed to be the month that a majority of them happened. What's so exciting is that during these times I not only get to create a look for someone that will one day be recreated for a special day, it also lets me into someone's life for a couple hours. I get to hear little stories about their past and also about their road down the marriage path. Also, this is the time I get to create an unique look that will forever be encapsulated into a photograph that is time stamped as a special occasion and will be admired for years and years. I find a lot of joy being a part of a day that is so special and also giving them the confidence to put their most beautiful face forward. I'm sharing some of my favorite transformations, keep in mind that my point-and-shoot camera isn't always the best in poor lighting.

January 2010: Week 1

It is at this point that I realize that I have been out of high school about 10yrs, out of college 5yrs and out of my makeup school 3yrs. It is also at this point that I have a great job doing one thing and now I want to have an amazing career doing something completely different. I have been doing makeup here and there throughout the year but hasn't really been consistent until this year. Most of my weekends are beginning to book and I'm starting to think about doing more advertising, including; magazines, bridal expos, etc. Because of this an event happened that was a turning point in my makeup career. By attending the Phoenix Bridal Expo on January 9th I met a team of artists...Artistry On Location. Which started an amazing chain of events that is doing more for me than any kind of advertising.Artistry On Location is a team of artists that is an all inclusive website for airbrush makeup artists, hair stylist and spray tanners. After meeting this team I quickly networked with the owner Heather Wilson (an amazing artist) and began the process to become a part of this team. After doing a full makeup application in front of her, yes it was nerve-racking but after I was done I was asked to be a part of the team. Permanent smile let me assure you. Starting from theBeginning of the Year

Because I have started this journal almost 2 1/2 months into the year I thought I would do some reflection on the first party of the year and then once I caught up to present day keep it moving forward from there. It has been a busy year and it just seems to be filling out with new possibilities and opportunities. Someone once said some really great words of advice. "Wishing leads to wishing, commitment leads to action".

Pretty Haute Makeup is in it's fledgling stages of becoming an official blogging site for my creative brain to flow. Hopefully it will be embraced with as much enthusiasm as I put into it. I will make every effort to post something new daily. Whether it be something I create or something that inspires. It will be mostly makeup focused but I will make sure that every post has intent and thought behind the content. Thank you for the people who continually support me in this endeavor to find the strength in my career and keep me motivated to pursue my true passion...Makeup.
